Founded in 1888 by the Women's Board of Home Mission of the Presbyterian Church, their chief purpose was to teach Pima and Tohono O'odham children English and Christianity. Enrollment of children was assisted by the work of Rev. Charles H. Cook, minister and teacher at Sacaton, Ariz. By 1950 enrollment was diminishing and the school was closed in 1960. Biographical note: Joel and Alice K. Huntsman moved to Tucson in 1900 where Joel operated the Huntsman-Hotchkiss Overland Company, an automobile dealership. He also formed the Dos Cabezas Gold Ridge Mining Company. The family built a home at the corner of Speedway and Warren in 1905, and a cabin on Mount Lemmon in 1908.
